City Swim Lesson Part of World’s Largest

June 15, 2011

More than 60 Memphis children at Bickford Aquatic Center joined with swimmers from all over the globe  yesterday in an attempt to break the Guiness World Record for the largest swim lesson.

Last year’s attempt for the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson included 4,000 participants, 34 states, five countries, and three continents.

Olympian Gil Stovall teaches Memphis kids to swim at the World's Largest Swim Lesson.

This year Memphis got in on the act. With  Olympian and Memphian Gil Stovall giving instructions, the kids touched the bottom of the pool, splashed, floated, and, generally, had a  good time.

The event, a partnership with the City of Memphis Parks Division, Memphis Pool, Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, Lehman-Roberts, and Safe Kids Mid-South, is one of several events Make a Splash Mid-South does each year to help promote water safety.
