City of Memphis announce On Board Diagnostics (OBDII) testing and opening of new station
The City of Memphis Motor Vehicle Inspection Bureau would like to make citizens aware of the following important announcements:
ON BOARD DIAGNOSTICS TESTING TO BEGIN NOVEMBER 15
Ensuring that the city of Memphis adheres to rigorous air quality standards, the Motor Vehicle Inspection Bureau will implement On Board Diagnostics (OBDII) testing for all model year 1996 and newer light-duty cars and trucks. OBDII testing will begin at all vehicle inspection stations on November 15. Similar to testing used in sister cities, Chattanooga and Nashville; OBDII testing will provide citizens benefits such as diagnostic codes for emission related failures. A change to the new procedure citizens should note is that testing for the new system will require drivers to step out of the car while the testing is conducted. Tailpipe emissions testing will still be performed on 1995 and older vehicles.
NEW VEHICLE INSPECTION STATION TO OPEN NOVEMBER 15
Beginning November 15, citizens of Memphis will have an additional location for vehicles inspections. The City of Memphis’ Motor Vehicle Inspection Bureau will open its fourth inspection station located at 2355 Appling City Cove. The new inspection station will consist of six (6) inspection lanes – two of which will accommodate large commercial and recreational vehicles. Vehicle inspections will still be conducted at the Downtown location, 590 Washington Ave; the South location, 1720 R.K.S. Commercial Cove; and the East location, 855 North White Station.
