City ranks third in “Feed the Need” Campaign

August 6, 2010

Mayor Wharton presents Susan Sanford with a resolution in honor of her retirement as CEO and President of the Mid-South Food Bank.

Many Memphians are hungry, and 26 percent of the population in the metropolitan area experienced trouble in purchasing food for their families this past year. Since 1991, the Mid-South Food Bank helps fight hunger with the Operation Feed campaign, and in response to this charge City of Memphis employees raised over 700,000 points.

Citywide, the City ranked third place. But the real winner is the Mid-South Food Bank who benefits from this generosity and allows them to purchase food that will be distributed to 318 charitable feeding programs in 31 counties in West Tennessee, North Mississippi and East Arkansas.

Thanks to all of the charitable givers and division coordinators who worked to make this campaign a success. Also, congratulations to our grand prize winner Mr. Brent Nair of Information Services.  He received two-airline tickets to anywhere in the continental U.S., courtesy of A& I Travel Services. Thank you for helping in the fight against hunger through Operation Feed and let’s make an even larger impact next year.
