Rhodes College Awards Honorary Degree to Mayor Wharton

On Saturday, May 15, 2010, Mayor A C Wharton, Jr., received the Honorary Doctor of Humanities degree at the 161st Commencement of Rhodes College held at Fisher Garden on the school’s campus.  Rhodes President William E. Troutt stated, “We are pleased to award the Honorary Doctor of Humanities degree to Mayor Wharton, who reflects the passion for learning, leadership and civic engagement we aspire for our students at Rhodes.” Over the course of time, Mayor Wharton has received three other honorary degrees from other Memphis area institutions of higher learning and they are as follows: Doctor of Laws, LeMoyne-Owen College (2003), Doctor of Humane Letters, Southern College of Optometry (2004), Doctor of Fine Arts, Memphis College of Art (2009)

Congratulations to our Mayor for this great accomplishment and this addition to his many distinguished awards of service.
