On Saturday, May 15, the Office of Youth Memphis Ambassadors Program hosted an event to announce participants to the first phase of the program.  After completing an online application, participants were chosen via a computer-based lottery process – based on City Council district, income level, and a GPA of 2.0 or better.

The Memphis Ambassadors Program will target a total of 560 youth in grades 10-12 and will integrate community, business, and neighborhood alliances centered on four core values:

  • Education
  • Health
  • Civic and Social Responsibility
  • Employability

Housed in 14 sites covering seven City Council districts, the program will be launched in two phases beginning in June 2010 and January 2011. Each site will be supported by a community cluster that will include faith-based institutions, businesses, schools, neighborhood organizations, non-profits, government agencies, parents, and volunteers.
