Stand up and be counted!

Census takers are now in our communities and are visiting residences that did not mail back their census forms to record their answers. Currently, the participation rate for the city of Memphis stands only at 64% and during the next weeks, we are asking those that have not completed their forms to cooperate with the Census takers.

Memphis a wonderfully dynamic and thriving community.  Every piece of who we are speaks to our history, our progress and our diversity and the Census allows us to share what we have become, and ensures that everyone is represented.

For example, the data collected will be the playbook used to ascertain if funds for new roads,  and  job training centers will be allocated or what additional after school programs might be beneficial to our area given our population.

Let’s make a difference in our communities, take part in the 2010 Census.

I was ready to fill out my census form but never got one in the mail. I live in a condo and no one in our condo community received a census form either so I called the number to request one and the automated message said call back after a specific date. Well, I did call back and was told that no more forms would be mailed and that I would have to wait until the census taker showed up at my house. I am not sure if this was anyone else’s experience besides the one in my condo community but if so then no wonder we have such a low return rate here in Memphis.
