Franklin named Workforce Investment Network (WIN) executive director

On April 27, Desi Franklin was named executive director of the Workforce Investment Network (WIN.)

“It gives me great, great pleasure in naming Desi Franklin to fill the executive director position at WIN.  We spent quite a bit of time combing the profiles and qualifications of candidates to find the best possible fit for this critical role. Having known Desi as a formidable leader and attorney for several years, I am confident she is the right person for leading the charge in helping us develop a world class workforce for our community,” said Wharton.

 Ms. Franklin will fill the post at WIN, leaving the law firm Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz – where she is a partner and has practiced law since 1992.  She completed both undergraduate and legal studies at the University of Memphis and has a legal career that spans 26 years.  As a corporate attorney, she has managed complex transactions and professional teams in the successful completion of strategic projects for many institutional clients.

Ms. Franklin has extensive experience in identifying and negotiating effective solutions to complex issues and working with diverse stakeholders, all skills that will prove invaluable in navigating the responsibilities of the top post at WIN.

 As well, Ms. Franklin has a great passion for community involvement and for the last several years has committed her talents and energies to developing high-caliber leadership and economic and community development here locally. She has also served as a Board member and Chair of the Workforce Development Committee for the Greater Memphis Chamber.

 Ms. Franklin will fill the post effective May 15, 2010.
